江戸前期、京都の扇面絵師宮崎友禅斉がそれまでに伝えられていた様々な染技法を応用して、友禅染を確立したと伝えられています。その後、加賀、江戸にも伝えられ、現在は、京友禅、加賀友禅、そして江戸の友禅は東京手描友禅として伝えられています。
東京手描友禅は、昭和４９年５月「伝統的工芸品産業の振興に関する法律」が制定され、この法律に基づいて、昭和５５年３月に、通産大臣指定の伝統的工芸品に指定されました。
友禅染の美しさは多彩さと自由なデザインにあります。風情のある花鳥風月を楽しむのもよし、モダンな感覚の柄を楽しむのもよし、作り手とお客様の出会いの数だけバラエティー豊かな着物が生まれるのです。
It is said that fan painter Yuzensai Miyazaki of the Edo first era in Kyoto used the various dyeing techniques and established as Yuzen dyeing. 　 After it was handed down to Kaga prefecture and Edo prefecture,it was known "Kyo Yuzen", "Kaga Yuzen" and "Edo Yuzen" which was called Tokyo hand draw Yuzen. As regards the promotion of traditional object on arts industry,it law was enacted in May 1974. On the basis of its law, "Tokyo hand draw Yuzen" was sellected as a traditional object of industrial arts by a minister of Trade and Industry in May 1980. And then,the beauty of the Yuzen dyeing is in various colour and free design. We would like to enjoy the month of flowers and bird style. We would like to enjoy a modern sense and variety of rich clothes. And then it has been made rich clothes between maker and custmers.
